Ghost Pines Cabernet Sauvignon 2014
Wine EnthusiastThis affordable, larger-production wine is soft, structured and attentive to a savory edge of blue fruit, sweet vanilla and toasted oak. It's a crowd-pleasing blend from several appellations that's ultimately balanced and round.
Wine AdvocateAnother impressive wine from Ghost Pines at an attractive price point is the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon, emanating 42% from Napa, 36% from Lake and 22% from Sonoma. The final blend was three-fourths Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Merlot, Petite Sirah, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Barbera. This spent 18 months in aged French and American oak and is slightly more powerful wine at 14.2%. It is a large cuvée of 79,000 cases, priced to be affordable and made in a drinkable and endearing style. The wine offers a deep ruby/plum purple color, sweet blackcurrant fruit, medium body, lush, soft tannins and enough acidity for focus. Drink it over the next 5-6 years.
Wine SpectatorThe complex flavors expand and the texture is supple at points. A rustic, yet admirable and alluring, young Cabernet. Drink now through 2024. 82,100 cases made.
